From 2012 to 2017, I managed two YouTube channels with over 55K combined subscribers. While a good chunk of those videos are deleted now (there's only so much cringey 2015 humor I can take), I grew as a filmmaker from producing comedy content on a weekly basis.
Fast forward to 2020. I'd shed my YouTuber skin and reinvented myself as a "very serious" film director. Production had completely stalled on my debut feature film due to the COVID pandemic. Unable to shoot as planned, I turned to TikTok to start growing our audience.
My first TikTok video was a 1-minute elevator pitch for Egghead & Twinkie, and it went viral. I followed up the initial pitch with a series of TikTok videos promoting our Seed&Spark crowdfunding campaign for the film. Ultimately, we raised over $22K to put towards my debut feature, with the majority of those donations coming from total strangers on TikTok.
Today, I work as an in-house director for an ad agency, directing commercial work for clients with a special focus on video content for social media.
All of the TikTok videos featured in this compilation were written, filmed, and edited by yours truly.
This crowdfunding video for Egghead & Twinkie was recognized by Seed&Spark as one of their favorite pitch videos of 2020. Written, directed, and produced by yours truly.
So what exactly did I do as a "quirky" YouTuber back in the day? Watch my channel trailer to find out.
One of my oldest videos still up on YouTube. I was 16 when I filmed this, but weirdly, I think I would edit it the exact same way today.
